People give so many kinds of definition for the Amharic term “Arada”. However most of them use it as an excuse to cover their irresponsible behaviors. Here I give you short description of four university students so that you may decide yourself who is ARADA.
Dawit- He is 3rd year university student. Alcohol, Chat and Drugs are part of his day today life. He is genius and the least grade he scored so far is 3.8. People think he is Arada because he is doing “things that every young person should do in campus”.
Tsion- She have a boy friend in campus. She loves to have fun with her friends. They go to party every weekend and drink like a fish. Money is not a problem for her because she has a sugar daddy who is paying her in exchange for sex. She believes she is Arada because she can handle two men (her boyfriend and sugar daddy)
Girma- Fresh man student. He is Moderate in his academic achievement. He spend all of his time in Class and Library. He doesn’t have any interest to try new things with friends. His friends think he is too conservative. He never drink, chew chat or use drugs but he sometimes go to the nearby hotels to have sex with prostitutes.
Bety- 2nd year sociology student, beautiful and cheerful. She loves to be seen with each and every famous guy in the campus. She go to the clubs with different guys every day and spend much of her nights out of campus. She thinks she is Arada because she is playing with the most handsome men in the campus and she can have sex with whomever she likes.
